Utilizing innovative chemistry to optically hide fingerprints

The conventional approach to controlling fingerprints on product surfaces has been to use an oleophobic or oil-repellent coating. This approach, however, works only to partially reduce the presence of a fingerprint. An innovative approach developedby NBD is to create a surface that spreads the fingerprint oil so that it matches the refraction index of the surface. This allows light to pass through the fingerprint oil undeterred, rendering the fingerprint invisible. Enabling the fingerprint oil to spread is accomplished by creating a durable oleophilic surface layer which, when combined with hydrophobic elements, makes the fingerprint oil not only invisible but also easy to clean.
